FSB versus Novosibirsk scientist Oleg Korobeinichev

On March 17, 2006 Oleg Korobeinichev, deputy head of the combustion kinetics laboratory at the Institute of Chemical Kinetics and Combustion in the Siberian department of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Novosibirsk), was accused of disclosing state secrets by providing information to a U.S. State Department research institute.

Investigators held that Korobeinichev revealed secret information concerning rocket fuel in a work funded by a U.S. grant. He has been working at the Institute of Chemical Kinetics and Combustion since 1960.

In December 2006 the case brought in against scientist Oleg Korobeinichev has been passed to the court, Gen-Lt Sergey Savchenkov, chief of FSB’s Novosibirsk Regional Department said.The scientist had transferred to the research center of Pentagon the information about new developments of solid propellant, general-lieutenant of counterintelligence specified.

The institute of Korobeinichev conducts no secret research and the most interesting results could be found in scientific articles, said a source with research community of Novosibirsk on condition of anonymity. Defense experts of Biisk Altai Research and Production Center studied the results of joint research with Pentagon. The conclusion of experts was the absence of secret data.

On May 28, 2007 the Novosibirsk department of the FSB has closed its investigation of Korobeinichev, because it failed to uncover secret ties with the Pentagon.
