Andrei Dumenkov found guilty of spying for GermanyOn August 24, 2006 The Moscow City Court sentenced Andrei Dumenkov to 12 years in prison for trying to pass information on Russian missiles to German intelligence services. Dumenkov was convicted of "high treason in the form of espionage," the FSB was quoted as saying in a statement. The Federal Security Service announced in a statement to news agencies that Mr. Dumenkov ''fell under suspicion'' in 2004 after he sought to buy information on missiles and "hand them over to representatives of German special services." He was arrested in August 2005 at a Moscow railroad station, as he attempted to leave the country. Reports say he had just obtained a residency permit for Germany at the time of his arrest. FSB officials later confirmed the links between Dumenkov and the German security service and found evidence of Dumenkov collecting information on state-of-the-art Russian missiles, the statement said. Dumenkov was detained on Aug. 3, 2005 in Moscow and pled guilty during the trial. Agentura.Ru March 2011 |
